In Generally, the design life of a garage door spring  is 10,000 cycles.  That means if a garage door is opened 2-4 times a day  the spring will be  broken in about 7-10 years.  When the spring is broken, it is recommended  to replace it as soon as possible, otherwise, the other components (such as the opener) of the garage door may be also damaged  too.

   Here is a sample of spring change. One picture shows the broken spring, the other  shows the door after spring change. There is something special about this garage  door. The head room is very low in the garage. So the spring is installed on the back of the door. This is called a rear spring garage door installation.
